Notebook will not start. Solving the problem
Situation 1.
The laptop seems to be dead. It connects CA, but the LED (Power On, HDD light, full of light, battery ¡etc.) do not turn on the laptop and do not react at all if you press the power button.
First of all in this situation to control the AC adapter. You can check the output voltage with a voltmeter. If you can not do, find an AC adapter well known and use it to test the laptop. And 'possible laptop seems to be dead because the AC adapter is bad (and the battery is low). If you know that the AC adapter is functioning correctly and outputs correct voltage but the laptop is still dead, most likely you have a problem power tab mother (or power on board some laptops) and must be replaced.
If you need to replace the AC adapter, be sure to use the correct one. The voltage output should be exactly the same on the original card. The amperage output must be the same as the original card or higher, but not lower.
Situation Second.
When you plug the AC adapter the power LED and battery charge LED illuminates. When you press the power button on my laptop powers up but will not start. There are no videos on LCD or external monitor.
If the power LED turns on indicates that the handset is always power from the CA. Most likely there is nothing wrong with the adapter, but only if tested with a voltmeter to make sure that the output voltage is correct.
Try this. Disconnect the AC adapter, remove the battery and wait for 1-2 minutes. After connecting the AC adapter ans try starting the laptop again. Sometimes this trick helps.
You may also have a memory problem related. Try repositioning the memory module, just remove it from slot on the motherboard and reinstall. Try installing the memory module into the slot of another (if ¡¯ s available.) If you have two memory modules installed, try removing one by one and start the laptop with only one memory module installed.
If the laptop starts fine with one memory module in both slots, but does not start with the second memory module in both slots, the second memory module defective. Replace the module.
If the laptop starts fine with both memory modules when installed in slot A, but does not start with both memory modules installed in slot B, slot B is faulty and you ¡¯ ll have to replace the motherboard or use only one memory slot.
Situation 3.
When you press the power button, the laptop makes a series or short and long beeps and will not start. There are no videos on the screen.
In this test situation, the memory module as I described in situation2. Try installing a known good memory module. Very probably You Are getting a beep error because of a faulty memory.
Situation 4.
You start the laptop. Seems that the laptop is booting normally (hard drive LED flashing) but no video on screen
In this test situation the laptop with a monitor outside. If the external display works fine but there is no video on LCD laptop, the more likely there is a problem within the group portable display. Go to my previous post witch covers laptop video problems in more detail.
Situation 5.
You start the laptop and begins to make repetitive clicking noise or grinding noise.
Most likely you hear this noise due to a defective hard drive. You can remove the hard drive and start the laptop without it. If the noise is gone, the hard drive is your problem. Replace it.
If the handset Clicking or grinding noises and you have video on the screen, you can run a hard drive testing utility. I usually use Hitachi ¡¯ s fitness test drive. This test is reliable and easy to use.
Situation 6.
The laptop boots into Windows ans works for a while ', but after that it shuts down by itself without reason or warning. You restart the laptop, but the same problem appears again
More likely to heat ¡¯ sa problem. Listen for the cooling fan, make sure it works.
This problem can appear due to a defective memory module, try some suggestions from situation 2.
The laptop still boots ans you still see the screen, so you can test your memory. I usually use Memtest86 +. Test memory, and if this fails, replace the faulty module.
Situation 6
The laptop starts normally but the video screen has lines, some strange characters or other defects
It could indicate a problem with the LCD screen laptop, video cable, graphics card or motherboard. Here ¡¯ s my previous post witch covers troubleshooting bad images on the screen in more detail.
